Where metro Baltimore stands

The Baltimore metropolitan area - which includes the city and Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Queen Anne's counties- ranks fourth among U.S. cities in violent crime. The area reported 1,064.1 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, according to the FBI's 2000 Uniform Crime Report. Violent crimes are offenses of murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Several cities, including Atlanta, Chicago and St. Louis, aren't represented because they did not meet the FBI's criteria or missed the publication deadline. For more information, go to www.fbi.gov.
