Nickel package

Nfl Week 7

October 29, 2001|By Jamison Hensley

Jacksonville 0 3 7 7 - 17

Baltimore 0 3 3 12 - 18

Thumbs up:First-year running back Jason Brookins. In his first NFL start, he didn't fold after watching his dropped pass lead to a critical third-quarter interception. He finished by gaining 26 of his career-best 82 yards rushing in the fourth quarter.

Thumbs down:Ravens' pass protection. In their past three halves, Ravens quarterbacks have been sacked 11 times. Fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo is having trouble picking up blitzes and right guard Bennie Anderson has to seal off the inside better.

Stat of game:39 - Yards given up by the Ravens' defense in the game's final 14:42. That allowed the Ravens to rally from a 17-6 fourth-quarter deficit.

Quotable: "I know that technology knows that I know that my hands were underneath the ball and literally cradled it in. The rest is history." - Ravens receiver Qadry Ismail on his game-winning touchdown catch, which was challenged by the Jaguars.

Trainer's room:Three starters suffered injuries - Ayanbadejo (bruised knee), guard Edwin Mulitalo (sprained left ankle) and center Mike Flynn (torn tendons in right thumb) - but all returned to the game. Flynn will be re-evaluated today.
