Lawrence Gerald Kalb, a retired purchasing agent and aviation enthusiast, died Thursday of undetermined causes at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was 71 and lived in Bel Air.
He retired in 1991 as a University of Maryland Medical Center purchasing agent. He had earlier worked in the same field at the University of Maryland, College Park and at the Bendix Corp. As a young man he was a flight-line mechanic at the Glenn L. Martin Co.
Born and raised in Essex, he was a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School.
He had been a tour director at the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum in Middle River.
During the Korean War he served in the Air Force.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 533 E. Jarrettsville Road in Hickory, Harford County, where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Rose Marie DiPietro; a son, Mark Kalb of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; two daughters, Janet Claveli and Suzanne Knight, both of Bel Air; a brother, Joseph Kalb of Essex; three sisters, Dolores McKenny of Essex, Charlotte Mosko of Bel Air and Mary Furth of Abingdon; and six grandchildren.
