Sister Mary Clementia, S.S.N.D., a retired parochial school educator, died in her sleep Tuesday at Villa Assumpta, motherhouse of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Woodbrook. She was 93.

Sister Mary Clementia, S.S.N.D., a retired parochial school educator, died in her sleep Tuesday at Villa Assumpta, motherhouse of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Woodbrook. She was 93.
Since 1986, Sister Mary, who later returned to her birth name of Joanna DeKleva, had lived at Villa Assumpta.
In a teaching career that spanned more than half a century, she had taught general studies, art and music to students at schools in Rochester, N.Y., New York City, Camden, N.J., and Washington, as well as Sacred Heart Parochial School in Baltimore during the 1950s.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was a graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1927 and professed her vows in 1931.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Villa Assumpta, 6401 N. Charles St.
She is survived by nieces and cousins.
