Powell Cucchiella of Eastern Tech points skyward each time he scores or assists on a soccer goal in honor of his stepfather, John Mitchell, who died two weeks ago. The senior did it twice during last night's 2-0 win at host Perry Hall, in the Mavericks' ninth shutout of the season.

"I used to come home and tell him when I scored and it made him feel good," said Cucchiella, whose goal and assist after a scoreless first half raised his totals to 11 each in goals and assists. "I know he is up there celebrating with me."

Matt Moffa headed in his 12th goal of the year off Cucchiella's cross five minutes into the second half. Moffa, who also has two assists this year, was coming off a two-goal game in Saturday's 3-0 shutout of then-No. 3 Mount St. Joseph.

With two minutes to play, Cucchiella's breakaway ended with him touching the ball past oncoming keeper Ian MacDonald (five saves) and into the net. Eastern Tech's Lawrence Ramsey had eight saves behind defenders Matt Frisky, Chris Staimer, Scott Ercole, David Tine and Dan Brooks.

It was the 11th straight win for the third-ranked Mavericks, who are 11-0-1 since a 2-1 loss to No. 14 Sparrows Point. It also earned a berth in tomorrow night's Baltimore County title game at Perry Hall against No. 8 Dulaney, which battled the Mavericks to an earlier 0-0 tie.-
