Roads to BWI closed as FBI checks vehicle in airport garage

October 23, 2001

Access roads to Baltimore-Washington International Airport were closed about an hour yesterday afternoon while FBI agents investigated a vehicle parked in the airport garage, authorities said.

The roads were reopened about 3:15 p.m., when agents deemed the vehicle safe. FBI officials declined to say why they were investigating, what they found or what happened to the vehicle.

Special Agent Peter A. Gulotta Jr. said, "We had an investigative interest in one of the vehicles parked in the public garage at the airport. Until we could be sure there was no threat, we felt it was in the best interest of public safety to close the roads to the garage and restrict pedestrian access."
