Kitchen fire causes minor damage to Ellicott City apartment

October 23, 2001|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A small kitchen fire at an apartment in the 8700 block of Town and Country Blvd. in Ellicott City caused minor smoke damage to the unit and temporary evacuation of several neighbors yesterday.

The blaze started about 2:10 p.m. when food left on the stove caught fire, said Capt. Barry Bennett of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. It was extinguished about five minutes later, he said.

The neighbors were evacuated because of the smoke but were allowed to return quickly, he added.
