UMES gets $2.5 million for marine science center

PRINCESS ANNE - A federal agency has awarded $2.5 million to the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore to take the lead in establishing a marine science center.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the award as part of $15 million in funding for science programs at Minority Serving Institutions.

The Living Marine Cooperative Science Center at UMES will work with other schools to conduct research on marine and estuarine systems while promoting education, research and advancement opportunities in the field for students in traditionally underrepresented groups.
