Manchester man, 70, dies when tree he was cutting down falls on him

A Manchester man was killed yesterday when a tree he was trying to cut down fell on him, state police reported.

Aubrey Blye, 70, used a saw to cut a large dead tree on his property in the 4900 block of Hoffmanville Road, but when it failed to fall, he tied one end of a rope to the tree and the other to his tractor to pull it down, said Tfc. Scott Zimmerman of the Westminster barracks.

Zimmerman said when the 100-foot tree fell, the upper portion struck Blye on the head and upper body, knocking him off the tractor. Blye's wife, Margaret, 61, found his body lying next to the tractor about 5:30 p.m.
