John Collins, 83, a jazz guitarist primarily known for his longtime association with Nat King Cole, died Oct. 4 in West Los Angeles. Mr. Collins had been battling cancer.

Beni Montresor, 78, who conjured magical, dreamlike images in the children's books he illustrated and the sets and costumes he designed for opera productions around the world, died Thursday in Verona, Italy, near the village where he was born.

Irmgard Farden Aluli, 89, a songwriter and performer whose many tenderly eloquent compositions in a career of more than 70 years made her one of the last links to a golden era of Hawaiian popular music, died Oct. 4 in Honolulu.
