Brewers: Placed P Mac Suzuki on unconditional-release waivers. Named Dave Collins first base coach.

Cubs: Purchased contract of P Jose Cueto from Double-A West Tenn. Placed IF Chad Meyers on waivers for purpose of giving him unconditional release.

Devil Rays: Fired bullpen and third base coach Terry Collins.

Expos: Sent P Joey Eischen, OF Terry Jones, C Sandy Martinez, former Orioles P Bobby Munoz and former Orioles OF Mark Smith outright to Triple-A Ottawa.

Phillies: Named Gary Varsho bench coach. Sent former Orioles IF P.J. Forbes, IF David Newhan, OF Josue Perez, C Matt Walbeck, P Eddie Oropresa and P Evan Thomas to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rangers: Acquired P Randy Flores and P Rosman Garcia from Yankees, completing an earlier trade. Assigned Flores and Garcia to Triple-A Oklahoma.

Tigers: Announced that hitting coach Bill Madlock and bullpen catcher Ron Nedset won't be retained for 2002 season.

White Sox: Outrighted contracts of C Mark Dalesandro, P Bill Pulsipher and P Ken Vining to Triple-A Charlotte.

Basketball

NBA: Announced that it would not grant Knicks a disabled player's exemption after retirement of F Larry Johnson because of back injury.

Bulls: Exercised option on contract of F Ron Artest for 2002-03.

Clippers: Waived C Neil Edwards and F Ansu Sesay.

Knicks: Waived G Ed Cota and G-F Michael Hicks.

Cowboys: Waived TE Johnny Huggins.
