A Morgan State University student was shot to death early yesterday outside his girlfriend's apartment building in the Forest Park section of Northwest Baltimore, city police reported.

Arnold Stevens, 27, was found lying in the street next to his sport utility vehicle by his girlfriend and was pronounced dead at the scene about 2 a.m. A resident of Baltimore County, Stevens was a senior studying business management.

City police Detective Vernon Parker said Stevens was visiting his girlfriend, also 27, and their 2-year-old daughter at the woman's apartment in the 4400 block of Fairview Ave. on Tuesday when the woman left after midnight to visit a female neighbor.

Parker said Stevens' girlfriend told police that before she left the neighboring apartment, she heard what sounded like gunshots. The women were returning to Stevens' girlfriend's apartment about 1:40 a.m. when they saw him lying on the ground.

Parker said it appeared that Stevens was walking toward his 1997 Ford Expedition when someone shot him several times in the head and back.

Police knew of no suspect or motive for the shooting. Parker asked anyone with information to call 410-396-2100.
