Red Sox update

A season of discontent is ending for the Red Sox, and not a moment too soon. They had lost 23 of their past 29 games before winning last night. They have allowed 39 runs in their past six games. Boston is 13-26 under Joe Kerrigan and is hoping to hold off Toronto for second place in the American League East. Manny Ramirez has missed the past five games because of injury, but Boston's lineup will include Calvin Pickering, twice named the Orioles' minor-league Player of the Year. He homered in last night's win over Tampa Bay. Nomo provided one of the season's highlights when he no-hit the Orioles on April 4. Cone gets the start in Cal Ripken's final game. Will it be the last one for Cone, as well? The Red Sox get to witness another historic moment: Kohlmeier's first major-league start. He joins Boston's Derek Lowe as closers-turned-starters. The Orioles are 9-6 against the Red Sox this year, taking three of four at Fenway Park last week.
