Panel seeks nominees for conservation board

Nominations for an appointment to the Carroll County Soil Conservation District board of supervisors are being accepted by the Maryland Soil Conservation Committee.

The new board member's term will begin Nov. 17.

Members attend monthly meetings. Nominees should have a knowledge of and interest in land use and the conservation of soil, water and related natural resources.

Members must be Carroll County residents.

Nomination forms are available from Bryan Butler at the Carroll County Extension Office on Smith Avenue, or from the Soil Conservation District Office at 1004 Littlestown Pike.

Deadline for nominations is Nov. 9. Nominations must be sent to State Soil Conservation Committee, Department of Agriculture, 50 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Room 306, Annapolis 21401.

Extension office plans range of fall classes

The Carroll County Extension Office will offer a series of classes on agricultural opportunities and enterprises.

Topics will include the history of Carroll County agriculture, business-plan development, marketing, preparation for production, horticulture opportunities, the use of technology, and opportunities in animal agriculture.

Classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 8, 14, 15 and 20 at the Carroll County Extension Office, 700 Agriculture Center, Westminster.

Cost is $250. Light refreshments will be available. Registration is required.
