2000 Fazi-Battaglia Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi...

Wine of the week

September 26, 2001|By Michael Dresser

2000 Fazi-Battaglia Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico ($8). This Italian white wine is so widely distributed and so inexpensive you could easily mistake it for something ordinary. But it's not. This is actually a well-made dry wine with more than its share of complexity. It offers crisp, cutting mineral flavors with hints of slate, nuts, herbs and pears. It's a bit austere but not at all simple. It's an excellent wine to order with seafood or the antipasto course. Fortunately, many Italian restaurants offer it on their wine lists at quite reasonable prices.
