County honored for financial report, transportation plan

The Howard County Comprehensive Annual Financial Report has rated an "Excellence in Financial Reporting" certificate of achievement for the 25th consecutive year, Howard County Executive James N. Robey has announced.

The certificate was awarded from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The report was issued for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000.

The American Public Transportation Association recently awarded first place in the print media category of its annual "Ad- Wheel" awards marketing competition to Howard County for its redesigned Howard Transit route schedules.

The schedules, part of a public awareness campaign to promote the county's bus system, were a project of Marketing Outsource Associates Inc., retained by Corridor Transportation Corp., the county's bus contractor.

Chamber of Commerce sponsoring business mixer

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Business After Business event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Rapid Sign Center, 7395 Washington Blvd., Suite 103, Elkridge.

Admission is $10 for members; nonmembers pay $20.

Farmers offered course in business management

The Agricultural Marketing Program of the Howard County Economic Development Authority will offer a free six-week business management course for farmers or those interested in farming who are considering developing an agricultural enterprise or diversifying one.

Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning next month. Four sessions will be held at Carroll Community College in Westminster and two at the Center for Business and Technology in Columbia. The classes are free.
