Family plans fund-raiser for medical costs

The Knight family has scheduled a bull roast fund-raiser from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Kurtz Beach in Pasadena to benefit Heath Knight, who was diagnosed with a blood disease that is a precursor to leukemia. Proceeds will go toward medical costs for Knight's chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant.

The fund-raiser will feature a disc jockey, raffles, a silent auction and a money wheel. The menu will include pit beef and ham, marinated chicken, Italian sausage, beer, soda and coffee. Tickets are $30. Information or to purchase tickets: 410-255-8198.

Library offers Internet, Web catalog training class

Anne Arundel County Library is offering "Click Here," a free Internet and library Web catalog training class for adults. The class will be offered at the Riviera Beach branch, and registration will begin Tuesday. A county library card must be presented when signing up for the class.

The 90-minute beginner class is for those with little or no computer experience. It will teach the basics of using the mouse, finding a book or magazine article and placing a request, as well as an introduction to the Internet.

Beginner classes are scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10. Intermediate classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13.

Commissioned: Navy Ensign Saul M. Pollack, son of Linda R. and Stuart E. Pollack of Pasadena, recently was commissioned upon graduation from the Naval ROTC Program with Naval ROTC Unit, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa.

School 5K: Volunteers from the Bodkin Elementary School PTA will hold a 5-kilometer foot race and one-mile fun run/walk Oct. 13. Race day entries will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., and the fun run/walk will start at 8 a.m. Runners in the 5-kilometer race will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the event will start at the school, 8320 Ventnor Road. The entry fee for adults and pupils who do not attend Bodkin is $12 in advance, and it must be received by Oct. 5. After that, the entry fee is $15. Religious education: The religious education office at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church is accepting registration from new and returning families for the school year that starts this month.
