Annapolis Friends to hold prayer vigil on violence

Annapolis Friends will hold a silent prayer vigil to reflect upon the recent violence in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania at 7:30 tonight at the Annapolis Friends Meetinghouse, 351 Dubois Road.

After worship, participants will be invited to share thoughts and feelings on healing, peace and reconciliation. The public is welcome.

Preministerial student wins $2,000 scholarship

Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation awarded Karl M. Schwarzmann of Millersville a $2,000 scholarship toward his tuition at Hiwassee College, a United Methodist institution in Madisonville, Tenn.

The United Methodist Higher Education Foundation was established in 1964 to raise, manage and distribute funds to foster education in a Christian context.

Schwarzmann is the son of pastor Henry F. Schwarzmann. He is studying education and preministerial studies at Hiwassee.


Church luncheon: Ferndale United Methodist Church will hold its 10th annual luncheon, fashion show and auction from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Michael's Eighth Avenue. A buffet will be available for $18.50. Tickets are available at the church, 117 Ferndale Road. Information: 410-761-2880.

Church concert: The Mitchellville-based family choir, the Mount Nebo Singers, will perform hymn and gospel music at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olive African Methodist Church, 2 Hicks Ave., Annapolis. The cost is $7, and proceeds will go toward local charities. Information: 410-268-1024.

Old Testament: Registration is being accepted for a two-credit college course, Old Testament History, Poetry and Prophecy, to be held Monday through Sept. 29 at Anchor Baptist Church, 320 W. Pasadena Road in Millersville. The classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $380 for students receiving two credits from Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Wisconsin and $100 for students auditing the course. Information: 410- 647-9614.
