Field of Screams

If you dare to take the spine-tingling Field of Screams Haunted Hayride near Lancaster, Pa., you'll be greeted by a mob of insane clowns who have been banned from their previous circus acts for reasons too gruesome to mention. You'll also encounter creatures and ghouls that will make you cringe and shudder. And just when you think you're finally safe, a Tormented Twister awaits your arrival. If you survive the hayride, the Den of Darkness horror barn will make you tremble as you walk through the dark halls and ghost-infested passageways. You might escape Dragnok the Giant, but will you be able to find your way out of a pitch-black 900-square-foot maze? If you do, you'll run into a chainsaw lunatic and become trapped in a checkered frightmare. For children, there's the Little Screamer's Hayride.

The ninth annual Field of Screams, off Route 30's Mountville exit near Lancaster, Pa., runs through Oct. 28. Hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $8 for the field and $8 for the den or $14 for both; $5 and $9 for seniors and children ages 10 and under. The Little Screamers Hayride is $2 for adults, $4 for children. Group rates are also available. Call 717-285-7748.
