Financial education program slated for Tuesday in Annapolis

A financial education program for seniors is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Atria Manresa assisted-living community in Annapolis.

Larry Prascus and Morris Vickers of Severna Park-based Financial Security Advisors, which specializes in financial services for seniors, will discuss strategies to avoid outliving one's resources and offer advice on protecting assets in the event of catastrophic health problems. Prascus and Vickers are members of the National Society of Certified Senior Advisors.

The program, the first in a series of monthly sessions that run through March, is free and open to the public. Atria Manresa is at 85 Manresa Road.

10-week computer course is designed for beginners

A computer class for beginners will start Oct. 1 at South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater.

The 10-week course, offered by Anne Arundel Community College, will be taught by Joe Beard.

Beard will discuss the proper procedure for starting and shutting down computers, handling diskettes and using a keyboard and mouse. He also will explain computer terminology. Participants are encouraged to practice computer lessons outside class. This is a demonstration class; no computers will be available for participants during the class.

Hours are 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. People age 55 and older are welcome. Senior center membership is required. Information: 410-222- 1927.

Annapolis center plans dinner theater trip

Annapolis Senior Center has scheduled a trip to see a performance of It's a Wonderful Life Nov. 14 at Timonium Dinner Theatre in Baltimore County.

The $45 cost includes the show and a buffet. Payment is due Oct. 24.

A bus will leave at 9:45 a.m. from the center, 1027 Bay Ridge Ave. Information: 410-222-1818.

Retirement: Seniors can learn how to plan for retirement at a workshop, "The Formula for Thriving in Life Past Middle Age," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater. Driving course: A "55 Alive" Mature Driving Course sponsored by AARP will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 and 28 at South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater. Ventriloquist: Ventriloquist Arthur Takeall will be at Annapolis Senior Center, 1027 Bay Ridge Ave. in Eastport Shopping Center, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
