COLLEGE PARK - The University of Maryland women's basketball team will start the 2001-02 season ranked in the top 20 of two major preseason polls. The Terrapins are ranked No. 19 by Women's Basketball Journal and Basketball Times, as well as No. 20 according to Athlon Sports in its preseason magazine.

The Terrapins return every starter, as well as 11 of 12 letter winners from last season's team that went 17-12 and received a bid to the NCAA tournament. Maryland will be led by senior guard Marche Strickland, who averaged 13.9 points last season, and senior forward Deedee Warley (Fort Washington), who pitched in 13.8 points and added 6.4 rebounds.

Also returning are 6-foot-3 center Rosita Melbourne (Washington) and 6-4 center Jamecca Harrell (Oxon Hill) to shore up the Terps' middle, and reserve forward Ije Agba (Rockville).

Returning in the Terrapins' point guard spot are Kiki Wimbush (Suitland), a 2001 all-freshman selection, and Vicki Brick (Timonium), who is coming off a knee injury that caused her to redshirt last season after an outstanding freshman season in 1999-2000.

Three-point sharpshooter Terri Daniels (Ellicott City) and junior Renneika Razor, who led the Atlantic Coast Conference in steals for most of last season, also add a powerful veteran presence.
