Boy Scout, 13, honored for his volunteer efforts

Windermere resident Daniel Karl Holub, 13, has been recognized as Anne Arundel County's Most Outstanding Volunteer of 2001 by County Executive Janet S. Owens.

At a ceremony Thursday in Brooklyn Park, Daniel was honored for collecting items for Easter baskets for needy children in the past two years. He is also active in the youth program at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Church. He visits nursing homes and cooks for the homeless.

Daniel is a member of Boy Scout Troop 770 and has worked as a volunteer at the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Expo, teaching first-aid skills.

He was selected as Most Outstanding Volunteer from more than 240 nominees. Daniel will represent the county in the "Maryland You Are Beautiful" awards in November.

Development director resigns Annapolis post

Susan Zellers has resigned as Annapolis economic development director, a position she has held since January 1996.

Mayor Dean L. Johnson said last week that Zellers will leave effective Tuesday to become executive director of the Marine Trades Association of Maryland.

Johnson said Arthur S. Drea, an Annapolis attorney who specializes in small-business legal matters and financing, will take over as interim director until a director is hired after the mayoral elections Nov. 6 and a new administration takes office Dec. 3.

Johnson lost his bid for re-election in last week's primary.
