Ravens 17, Bears 6

Nfl Week 1

September 10, 2001|By Jamison Hensley

Thumbs up: To Ravens outside linebacker Peter Boulware for shouldering the load. Completely healthy for the first time in three years, he finished with the game's most impressive line: 11 tackles, two sacks, two passes broken up and two forced fumbles.

Thumbs down: The Ravens turned the ball over on two fumbles in 30 rushing attempts. Last year, they lost the ball only seven times on 511 carries.

Stat of game: 1.3 -- The Bears' average yards per play against the Ravens' defense in the second half. That's compared to the 3.4 yards gained per play in the first half.

Quotable: "It didn't end up being pretty at the end, but it was enough to win." --Ravens running back Terry Allen on the rushing attack, which gained just 54 yards on 30 carries, or 1.8 yards per rush.

Trainer's room: No new injuries were reported. Starting cornerback Duane Starks (knee) was placed on the inactive list before the game and was replaced by James Trapp.
