Agricultural program offers management course for farmers

The Agricultural Marketing Program of the Howard County Economic Development Authority will offer a six-week business management course for farmers or those interested in farming who are considering developing an agricultural enterprise or diversifying an operation.

Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning next month. Four sessions will be held at Carroll Community College in Westminster and two at the Center for Business and Technology in Columbia. The classes are free.

Chamber of Commerce plans networking mixer

The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce's first "Taste of the Corridor" networking mixer will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Conference Center at Cedar Ridge, in Spencerville.

The Business Network International, Business Women's Network and Columbia Business Exchange will participate. The event, which will be catered by local restaurants, will be held in a restored barn built in 1910.

The cost is $10 for members; $20 for guests.

Florence Bain center seeks sponsors for race

The Florence Bain Senior Center Council is seeking local businesses and organizations to sponsor its Penguin Pace 5K Road Race, scheduled Feb. 3. Proceeds from the race will help fund health, art and educational events at the center.

Sponsorship costs $250 and includes the company name and logo on advertising for the race, as well as other incentives. The deadline for sponsorship is Sept. 28.
