Two years ago, Eastern Tech had a fourth-quarter lead at Randallstown before falling to the Rams. For a while, it looked like history might repeat itself.

The No. 7 Mavericks squandered a 14-point halftime lead yesterday, but this time they rallied in overtime to beat the No. 6 Rams, 26-20, in the opener for both teams.

Dietrich Wright led Eastern Tech with 77 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, and Broderick Maybank collected 61 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Eastern Tech's win was the first by a visiting team at Randallstown since Hereford won there in 1996.

The Mavericks used scoring runs of 3 and 43 yards by Wright and a 29-yard run by Maybank to build a 20-6 halftime lead.

But Randallstown scored two touchdowns -- off a fumble recovery and a 53-yard drive -- to tie the score at 20.

After winning the overtime coin toss, the Mavericks used a 9-yard run by Maybank to set up the go-ahead touchdown. Brad Newell scored on a quarterback keeper for a 26-20 lead.

After Newell's extra-point try hit the left upright, Randallstown took possession. The Rams, however, managed 5 yards on a Tyrell Brown pass to Tommy Breaux.
