Herman W. Carty Sr., 80, postal worker, salesman

Herman W. Carty Sr., a retired postal worker and former salesman, died of heart failure Aug. 30 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Towson. He was 80.

The former longtime Bel Air resident was a special delivery driver for the U.S. Postal Service in Baltimore for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He previously worked as a traveling salesman for 30 years, family members said.

Born and raised in Salisbury, he was a graduate of McDonogh School. He was married in 1945 to Betty Mauldin, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, who lives in Billings, Mont., Mr. Carty is survived by three sons, Herman W. Carty Jr., Richard Carty and Thomas Carty, all of Baltimore; two daughters, Nancy Carty of Billings, Mont., and Rosemary Henry of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Services were held Tuesday.
