Mount Airy, which is considering a commuter bus service to the Washington Metro's Shady Grove subway station, has scheduled an informational meeting and a public hearing before putting a contract out to bid early next year.

"We envision three round trips a day and would like to have this up and running by March," Mayor Gerald Johnson said yesterday in the quarterly meeting between Carroll's mayors and the county commissioners. "If it is successful, we could expand and move it north into Westminster." The informational meeting is scheduled for next month and the public hearing will be in December, he said.

Mount Airy has a large number of residents who commute to Washington to work.
