Forest Hill girl, 10, dies of injuries sustained in tractor-trailer crash

A Forest Hill girl died Thursday night of injuries sustained when a tractor-trailer ran a red light and hit the station wagon she was riding in Wednesday in Bel Air, state police said yesterday.

Heather Ricci,10, of the 2400 block of Edwards Drive, Forest Hill, died about 8:20 p.m. Thursday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said 1st Sgt. Scott Saunders.

A tractor-trailer eastbound on Route 23 ran a red light at U.S. 1 Wednesday afternoon, police said, striking a station wagon driven by Mary Dael, 16, who was baby-sitting Heather and her sister, Nicole, age 6.

Dael, a resident of the 700 block of N. Shamrock Road in Bel Air, was flown to Shock Trauma, where she was treated and released. The children were flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where Nicole was treated and released. Heather was moved to Shock Trauma.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jacob F. Scotton, 62, of Staley, N.C., was not injured. The tractor-trailer is owned by Billings Systems of Lexington, N.C.

Police are working with the Harford County state's attorney's office in the investigation. The truck driver has not been charged.
