`Our Town' auditions to begin tomorrow

Mount Airy Players theater group will hold auditions for the Thornton Wilder play Our Town starting tomorrow.

Auditions will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 10-12 at St. James Episcopal Church, 204 N. Main St., Mount Airy.

Roles are open for men and women ages 16 and older, one girl and two boys ages 10 to 12.

Auditions consist of readings from the script. A prepared monologue is encouraged, but not required.

Performance dates will be Nov. 9-11 and Nov. 15-17.

Knights of Columbus to sponsor basket bingo

St. Michael's Knights of Columbus will sponsor basket bingo at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 15 at St. Michael's in Mount Airy.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and reservations are recommended. Prizes include discontinued and feature baskets.

The evening includes three paper specials per game (20 games), four each filled special and raffle baskets.

Story time, crafts, class at Mount Airy library

The Mount Airy library branch, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

"Year-round Story Time" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. every Tuesday (Sept. 4, Things With Wings), and at 11 a.m. every Friday (Sept. 7, Things With Wings).

September Crafts for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) from 10 a.m. to noon, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"Bedtime Stories" for all ages at 7 p.m. Thursday.

"Internet Basics: Searching the World Wide Web" for adults at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7.

Mount Airy Book Club for adults at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 to discuss The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

Volunteer fire company to hold golf tournament

Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company will hold its fourth annual Bulldog Golf Classic on Sept. 17 at the Links at Challedon.

Entry fee is $75 and includes greens fees, cart, range balls, continental breakfast, cookout lunch, prizes and buffet dinner.

Players can participate in the hole-in-one contest for a new car.

Lions Club gives to group that helps teen parents

Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club recently donated $250 to Bright Futures Teen Parent Support Inc. toward start-up costs for the organization.

Bright Futures' goal is to provide low-cost day care for the children of teens still in school, said Cathy Goldsborough, the group's president.
