Venture out to the Gwynns Falls Trail for a hike Tuesday. Climb the boulders and discover the cobbles, pebbles and other rocks along the way. Learn about the sizes, colors and shapes of rocks in the area. Also, sit in on a story about rocks. This "Tales & Trails: Summer Storytime Adventures" event is open to children ages 3 to 7, accompanied by an adult.

Hike and story 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Tuesday at Gwynns Falls Trail, 1901 Ridgetop Road. $1 per child. Call 410-396-0440 to register.

Constellation birthday

The USS Constellation is another year older. In celebration of the frigate's 147th year, its crew is throwing a party, and you're invited. Activities include knot-tying, signal-flag necklace-making, nautical games, naval demonstrations, a performance by the Baltimore City Pipe Band, re-enactments by the Ship's Company, the official living-history group of the Constellation, a cannon demonstration and talks on ship-restoration efforts. Kids who bring a handmade birthday card receive free admission to the ship. Some activities are aboard the ship, some along Pier 1. All visitors can share in a birthday cake.

Events run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the USS Constellation, Pier 1, Inner Harbor. Events along the pier are free. Ship admission is free for kids with a birthday card; $6.50 adults; $5 seniors; $3.50 ages 6-14; free for ages 5 and under. Call 410-530-1797.
