Timeline in Beakes investigation

August 16, 2001

Investigators have pieced together this chronology of events in the murder of Yvette A. Beakes, a 26-year-old Glen Burnie pharmacist:

Wednesday, Aug. 8

10:45-11:30 p.m: Beakes leaves Pickles Pub after visiting friends.

Four attackers spot her on the Beltway or Arundel Expressway and follow the car to her apartment complex off East Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie. They ram her 2001 Acura with their 1990 Plymouth van in order to lure her out of the car. Three of the suspects force Beakes into the van at gunpoint and drive away. Another drives off with Beakes' car.

11:58 p.m.: A woman calls 911 from a pay phone near Beakes' apartment complex and hangs up. She calls again and reports seeing an accident and describes the two cars involved. She also describes an "assault" by four black men on a white woman.

An Anne Arundel police officer is sent to investigate the first call, but is never told by dispatchers about the accident or assault or to look out for the van and Acura. Dispatchers also don't relay the information to other police on the street.

Thursday, Aug. 9

12:37 a.m.: The attacker in Beakes' car gets separated from the others and, using Beakes' cell phone, calls the home of one of the other abductors.

Three kidnappers in the van withdraw $500 from a Baltimore- area ATM machine using Beakes' bank card. Beakes is held in the van.

Some of the attackers drive to the 1100 block of Walnut Ave. in Southwest Baltimore and abandon Beakes' Acura. They then drive to the 300 block of Athol Ave., where Beakes is forced to walk into the woods and is shot in the head.

Friday, Aug. 10

While investigating the last phone numbers dialed on Beakes' cell phone, police visit the home of one of the kidnappers, but his family reports knowing nothing of Beakes.

2 p.m.: Police find Beakes' car in the 1100 block of Walnut Ave.

Baltimore police later begin questioning four suspects -- Jamal D. Barnes, 23; Larry Walker, 16; Brian McMillan, 18; and Brian Wilson, 15.

Sunday, Aug. 12

9 a.m.: One of the suspects leads investigators to Beakes' body.
