Tip Of The Week

August 12, 2001|By Sara Engram

Fresh mint is easy to grow -- so easy that you may want to try it in an enclosed pot so that it doesn't take over your garden. Some varieties of mint can also thrive inside, if placed near a sunny window.

Mint is a delightful addition to iced tea or fruit salads and works well as a garnish for many desserts. Try a sprig in the cooking water when boiling carrots or peas. Make your own mint tea by steeping a tablespoon of leaves in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes.

There are many kinds of mint to choose from, including peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, pineapple mint and even catnip.
