I-695 lane addition proceeds on schedule

July 27, 2001

A $47 million project to add a lane to the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway between Frederick Road and the Interstate 95 interchange in southwest Baltimore County is on schedule and should be completed by spring 2004, state officials said yesterday.

An estimated 170,000 drivers use the section -- between Halethorpe and Catonsville -- every day, making it among the most heavily traveled segments of the Beltway.

The lane expansion is one of several projects designed to smooth travel on Interstate 695, including replacement bridges at Dulaney Valley and Providence roads.
