The Oakland Mills Community Association will sponsor a summer social from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Stevens Forest neighborhood pool.
The event is for Oakland Mills residents only. Pizza and watermelon will be served, and a disc jockey will be on hand. The cost is $2 for adults and teen-agers; $1 for children to age 12. Registration, which is required, is due by Aug. 10. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Graduates: Air Force Airman Justin P. Stallings, son of Christine Stallings of Owen Brown, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is a 2000 graduate of Oakland Mills High School.

Summer bash, pool party: The 50+ Center, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will offer a "Chocolate and Vanilla Summer Bash - Line Dance Social" from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. Concert series: Kings Contrivance, Oakland Mills, Owen Brown and Long Reach community associations will sponsor the concert series "Live at Lake Elkhorn" at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the bowl area by the Lake Elkhorn spillway. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at the pavilion. Mary Byrd Brown will play original country music tomorrow, and Joe Carta & the Blue Grass Cat will perform Aug. 1. Art class: Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor an eight-week art class, "You Can Draw and Paint," primarily for those ages 55 and older, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, beginning this week, at Longwood Apartments, 6150 Foreland Garth, Columbia. The cost is $28 for those ages 60 and older; $40 for ages 18 to 59. A six-week "You Can Draw and Paint" class will be offered from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Fridays, beginning this week, at the 50+ Center in east Columbia. Pool party, band night: Columbia Teen Center will sponsor a pool party for middle school children from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 31 at the Thunder Hill neighborhood pool. Belly dancing: Long Reach Community Association is offering belly-dancing classes Mondays.
