Prescription drug discount programs topic of meetings
The county Department of Aging has scheduled a series of meetings this month at various senior centers to answer questions on the high cost of prescription drugs, and to provide information on new programs that might provide some help.
The first of the presentations - co-sponsored by the county health department and members of the county's legislative delegation - will take place at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Pasadena Senior Center, 4103 Mountain Road.
In addition to addressing questions posed daily to the Department of Aging by telephone and at its centers, officials will explain the state's new seniors' Short-Term Rx Plan and the county health department's prescription drug discount card, and enrollment procedures.
The other sessions are scheduled for:
12:30 p.m. July 19 at Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie.
10 a.m. July 20 at South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane in Glen Burnie.
9:30 a.m. July 23 at Brooklyn Park Senior Center, 202 Hammonds Lane.
1 p.m. July 23 at Annapolis Senior Center, 1027 Bay Ridge Ave.
10:30 a.m. July 24 at O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton.
Program on dental care, diet offered in Pasadena
Pasadena Senior Center will hold a "Dental and Diet Education Day" program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 18.
The event, sponsored by the county Department of Aging's senior nutrition program and county health department's dental division, will feature information on proper denture care, and nutritionists answering questions on diet.
There will also be a tofu cooking demonstration.

Ombudsman retires: Marjorie Richmond, an ombudsman for the county Department of Aging, retired last month after serving as an advocate for residents of nursing homes and assisted-living facilities in the county since 1996. Before her service in Anne Arundel, she served as a public guardianship program officer for the Maryland Department of Aging.
