Long & Foster gives college aid to 21 students

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. awarded 21 scholarships recently to graduating Baltimore-area high school students to help with their college expenses.

Judges selected 100 high school seniors from the company's five-state mid-Atlantic service area to win the $1,000 awards. The criteria were school leadership, academic success, extracurricular activities, community involvement, work outside of school, recommendation letters and personal essays.

The following winners, with high school and college, were:

Anne Arundel County: Kathleen Tyson, Northeast/James Madison University.

Baltimore County: Maryanna Aldrich, Patapsco/College of William and Mary; Stacey Markel, Parkville/University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Jeffrey Novotny Jr., Parkville/University of Maryland, College Park; Melanie Pipkin, Perry Hall/ University of Maryland, College Park.

Also, Candice Turner, Landsdowne/University of Michigan; Jason Woods, Patapsco and Center for the Arts/Mercer University; Christopher Brown, Dulaney/University of Maryland, College Park; Hye-Young Park, Dulaney/University of Michigan; Brandon Douglass, Loch Raven/Brown University.

Carroll County: Michael Garzon, Westminster/University of Maryland, College Park; Kevin Carter, Liberty/Western Maryland College; Jocelyn Andersen, Delone Catholic/Salisbury State University.

Harford County: Hannah Welch, Havre de Grace/Salisbury State University; Jennifer Owens, Aberdeen/Towson University; Sarah Haller, Havre de Grace/Goucher College; John Yu, Fallston/the Johns Hopkins University.

Howard County: Ashley Harrington, Mount Hebron/University of Pennsylvania; Jessica Lee, River Hill/the Johns Hopkins University; Gregory Wallace, Centennial/Davidson College; and Megan Reynold, Atholton/Elon College.
