A Glen Burnie man died Tuesday after his motorcycle drifted off the road and slammed into two trees near Eldersburg, state police said.
William Allan Puckett Jr., 38, of the 100 block of Janaelin Drive was heading west on Arrington Road about 10:45 a.m. when his 1979 Yamaha motorcycle struck a tree on the road's north side.
The motorcycle came to a stop after striking a second tree about 30 feet off the road. Puckett was taken by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died at 11:52 a.m.
State police said no one witnessed the accident, and the preliminary cause is driver error.
"The assumption - and I use the word assumption here - is speed," said Cpl. Andy Anders of the Westminster barracks. "But we don't know what caused him to drift off the road."
