Cecil C. Scruggs Sr., a former construction worker, died June 27 of heart failure at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The longtime resident of Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore was 58.

Cecil C. Scruggs Sr., a former construction worker, died June 27 of heart failure at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The longtime resident of Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore was 58.
Until retiring on a medical disability several years ago, Mr. Scruggs had been employed as a construction worker.
He was a fisherman and enjoyed listening to classical music.
Mr. Scruggs was born in Buckingham, Va., and graduated from high school there. He moved to Baltimore in the 1960s.
Services were held Sunday.
He is survived by a son, Cecil C. Scruggs Jr., a daughter, Chaffavon Scruggs, and his mother, Grace Scruggs, all of Baltimore; three brothers, James Scruggs of Dillwyn, Va., George L. Scruggs of Randallstown and Junior Scruggs of Baltimore; and two sisters, Elsie Bolden of Dillwyn and Alma Barnes of Baltimore.
Joseph E. Schulte III, 21, O's fan, restaurant worker
Joseph E. Schulte III, a Baltimore native and former restaurant worker, died June 27 of melanoma at his home in Ocean City, N.J. He was 21 and had lived in Bel Air until 1998.
Born in Baltimore, he graduated from John Carroll School in Bel Air in 1998 and played on its football team. He attended Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing, N.J., and Delaware Technical School in Newark.
He worked at Bertucci's Restaurant in Bel Air, Wet Willy's Crab Deck in Edgewood and Ove's Restaurant in Ocean City, N.J. before being struck by his illness. He was an Orioles fan and enjoyed reading history.
His father, Joseph E. Schulte Jr., died in 1997.
A Mass was offered Monday.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda Brewin Schulte of Ocean City, N.J.; three sisters, Christina Schulte, Rose Schulte and Michelle Schulte, all of Ocean City, N.J.; his paternal grandparents, Dr. Joseph Schulte Sr. and Rose Mary Schulte of Towson; and his maternal grandmother, Frances Brewin of Northfield, N.J.
Suellen Jones Saunders, 46, Civil War re-enactor
Suellen Jones Saunders, a former Baltimore-area resident who was co-owner of a farm and was a Civil War re-enactor, died Friday at Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital of injuries she suffered in a fall from a horse May 25. She was 46 and lived in Huddleston, Va.
Mrs. Saunders had lived in Westminster and Roland Park.
She raised dogs and rode horses on her 100-acre farm, where she lived in a log cabin. As a Civil War re-enactor, she was often photographed dressed in 19th-century civilian garb.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., Suellen Jones attended Carroll County elementary schools, the Hannah More School and Garrison Forest School, where she graduated in 1973 and rode on the equestrian team. She attended Lynchburg (Va.) College.
In 1979, she married William Saunders, who survives her.

She also is survived by her mother, Sue E. Dalsemer of New York City; her father, David Jones of Oxford; a brother, David Stuart Jones of Annapolis; and a sister, Deborah Jones Buck of New York City.
Rev. Paul B. Snead, 83, Church of Christ pastor
The Rev. Paul Brenner Snead, a retired United Church of Christ pastor, died Friday of congestive heart failure at Hanover (Pa.) Hospital. He was 83 and had lived in Stoneleigh.
From 1959 to 1972, Mr. Snead was pastor of First and St. Stephen's United Church of Christ on York Road in Stoneleigh. He also held posts in Ephrata and Dover, Pa. before retiring in 1983 and assuming interim pastorates in south-central Pennsylvania.
Born in Lancaster, Pa., he was a graduate of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., and Lancaster Theological Seminary, where he received a degree in 1943. That year, he was ordained in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, now the United Church of Christ.
In 1956, he married Dorothy Newswanger Pollock, who survives him. His first wife, Elizabeth Trout, died in 1954.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 11 at Dover (Pa.) United Church of Christ.
Mr. Snead also is survived by a son, Philip Trout Snead of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Patricia Lou Deller of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Margaret Jane Miller of Mertztown, Pa.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Mary Elizabeth Brown, 59, co-owner of 2 Shore firms
Mary Elizabeth Brown, co-owner of real estate and insurance businesses, died Friday of cancer at her home in Bozman, Talbot County. She was 59.
Mrs. Brown was co-owner of the Brown Insurance Agency and Ralph E. Brown Associates Inc., both in Easton. The firms were founded in 1969.
Born in Tunis Mills in Talbot County, Mary Elizabeth Daffin was a 1959 graduate of Easton High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Granger & Faw Accountants after graduation.
In 1965, she married Ralph E. Brown, who survives her.
She was a member of Bozman United Methodist Church and was coordinator for three churches in Bozman, Whitman and Neavitt, the latter two also in Talbot County.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bozman United Methodist Church, Route 579 and Ruby Harrison Road.
