July 04, 2001|By Richard Irwin , SUN STAFF

Police charged two Baltimore men yesterday in the armed robberies of four mail carriers last week in the city's northeast.

Agent Angelique Cook-Hayes, a police spokeswoman, said the arrests were the result of an investigation by Northeastern District police and U.S. Postal Service inspectors. Five robberies occurred between June 25 and Friday.

James Mews, 27, of the 4400 block of Moravia Road and Andre Stokes, 19, of the 4900 block of Goodnow Road were each charged last night with four counts of armed robbery and handgun violations, Cook-Hayes said. They were being held pending a bail hearing tomorrow before a District Court commissioner.
