Career resource center sets job-search workshops

The Carroll County Business and Employment Resource Center is offering workshops and programs to help people seeking a job or looking for a new career.

Programs include:

Time Management: from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.

Strategies for Effective Employment Knowledge: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9-12.

Career Ability Placement Survey, Career Orientation Placement and Evaluation Survey, and Career Occupational Preference System workshops: from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 16.

Employment Goal Identification Workshop: from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 16-18.

Job References Workshop: from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. July 19.

Chamber of Commerce plans series of meetings

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce has announced meetings.

The Connections After Hours networking opportunity and business card exchange will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 17 at Days Inn at 25 S. Cranberry Road, Westminster. Refreshments will be served poolside at the newly remodeled motel. Reservations are required by July 12.

A general membership luncheon will be held at noon July 12 at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster. Cost is $15 and deadline for reservations is Thursday. James E. Slater Jr. will discuss "Environmental Issues for Small Business"; the talk will focus on ensuring compliance with the law through planning and employee training.

The networking breakfast, showcasing a town's local professional organizations, will be at 8 a.m. July 31 at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center, Westminster. Sharon Callahan from the Hampstead Business Association will discuss that town's history and future. Cost is $10. Reservations are required by July 24.

Mid-Atlantic hires marketing specialist

Sandy Wieber, senior vice president of marketing at Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit, has announced the hiring of Holly Richard as a marketing specialist.

Richard will work in the association's mid-Maryland region, which includes Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Washington counties.

She will assist with all aspects of advertising, trade show coordination, budget planning and various other marketing tasks.

She will also help plan the company's annual stockholders meetings, work on the internal newsletter and work with promotional projects involving the company's mortgages segment.

Richard graduated from Marymount University in Arlington, Va., with a bachelor's degree in communications.

Carroll Lutheran names finance administrator

Carroll Lutheran Village has named Darrell Duggins vice president of finance.

Duggins comes to Carroll Lutheran Village after spending 18 months as vice president of finance at Lutheran Family Services of Colorado and 11 years as treasurer and chief executive officer of Augsburg Lutheran Home in Maryland. He has a background in directing information technology, and is completing a master's degree in organizational management with a concentration in human resources through the University of Phoenix's online program.

Duggins' goal at the village is to "maintain the excellence of the organization from a financial perspective" and to build on that excellence through the strategic initiatives for the future.

Copper Ridge honors volunteers at dinner

Copper Ridge in Sykesville recently held an appreciation dinner for volunteers who assist residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Volunteers who were honored at the event include Stephen Vozzella, Amy McCormick, Pennie DiVenti, Ashley Bruce, Sharon Schwartz, Maura Bernstein, Nancy Doten, Heather Manning and Jackie Doten.

Volunteers live in Carroll, Howard and Baltimore counties, and assist with art programs, cooking groups, walking programs and the Men's Club. They also attend outings with residents.

New volunteers are welcome.
