Freedom District Lions Club presented a donation recently to the Carroll County Student Grant Program at Western Maryland College. The presentation was made to program director Beth Buckalew.
Gifts from local businesses and organizations enable the college to offer $1,500 scholarships to county residents enrolled in WMC's undergraduate program.
The program has helped nearly 3,000 students since 1984.
Blood drive set for Monday at Carrolltown Center
Carrolltown Center will hold a blood drive from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in the Community Room at the mall.
The blood drive is co-sponsored by Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross.
Red Cross supplies blood to more than 80 regional hospitals. To meet demand, 1,200 units of blood must be collected each day. Donating blood takes about 10 minutes. The entire visit lasts about an hour.

Carrolltown mall to be site of flea market July 14
The Trash to Treasures Flea Market, sponsored by Freedom Area Recreation Council's adult fitness program, Health & Fitness at Carrolltown, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 14.
The sale will be held in the Carrolltown Center parking lot at Ridge and Liberty roads in Eldersburg. Vendor spaces are available for $15.
Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit fitness center.

Sykesville-Freedom fire hall sponsors carnival this week
Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department will hold its annual Firemen's Carnival through Saturday next to the firehouse at Route 32 and Freedom Avenue.
Dinners will be served at 6 p.m. Games, rides and food booths will open at 7 p.m.
Concerts include: Long Lonesome Highway tonight; Bob Plunkert & Real Country tomorrow; Dixie Hiway Band on Thursday; Roll the Dice on Friday; and Bobbi's Sauthland Express on Saturday.
Saturday concludes with cash and other raffle drawings.

Christmas in July planners in search of crafts vendors
Carrolltown Center is seeking crafts vendors for its first Christmas in July craft show July 14.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the mall on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.
The cost is $100 for a 10- foot-by-10-foot space.

Eldersburg branch library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive has scheduled summer events.
Eldersburg Book Club for adults will meet at 2 p.m. July 14 to discuss "Drowning Ruth" by Ruth Schwarz.
In the Spotlight: "Babar" for all ages (children age 3 and younger with an adult) will be at 7 p.m. July 10. Registration is required.
