Howard High's Justin Ferguson won his first Class 2A title in the pole vault yesterday when he cleared 13 feet, 6 inches at UMBC, wrapping up the state outdoor track and field meet that was rained out Sunday.
Ferguson, a senior, had won the Howard County indoor pole vault championship this past winter.
Middletown won the boys team competition with 74 points, followed by Urbana and Surrattsville.
With Ferguson's 10 points for first place, Howard moved up one spot to sixth place with 34 points.
