Tutors Needed

Area schools and literacy programs seek volunteers to help children and adults improve reading skills and to assist with related projects. Among them:

Teach Baltimore, an intensive summer reading program developed by the Johns Hopkins University, is seeking college students to serve as reading and writing instructors for small classes of Baltimore children in kindergarten through third grade. Instructors will work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 21-Aug. 10. A two-week training session will begin June 2. Instructors will earn a small stipend, and those who commit to two summers could qualify for an education grant from Civic Works AmeriCorps.
