Long and Foster No. 4 in nation for 2nd straight year

For the second consecutive year, Long and Foster Real Estate Inc. was the fourth-largest brokerage in the nation in terms of sales volume and number of closed transactions, according to Real Trends, an industry newsletter.

Real Trends releases annual rankings of the nation's 500 largest real estate brokerages as well as the market leaders in most states. Long and Foster had 73,981 transactions and $14.2 billion in sales volume.

NRT Inc., the Parsippany, N.J.-based parent company of O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA, was No. 1, as it was in 1999, with 351,550 transactions and $105.7 billion in sales volume.

The top-selling companies in the Baltimore-Washington market last year were Long and Foster ($12.3 billion); OPF/ERA and Pardoe/ERA ($6.3 billion); Coldwell Banker Stevens Realtors ($2 billion); and Prudential Carruthers Realtors ($979.9 million).

OPF/ERA achieved more than $4 billion in sales last year for the first time in its history and ranked No. 1 in the metropolitan Baltimore area in sales volume.

Century 21 H.T. Brown Real Estate Inc. in Laurel rose to No. 213 and No. 287, up from Nos. 255 and 279 last year in listings and sales.
