Rain postpones a few baseball, softball finals

Rain that fell yesterday throughout the metro area postponed more state championship games.

The Class 4A state baseball final between No. 1-ranked Arundel (23-2) and No. 2 Dulaney (22-2) at Joe Cannon Stadium was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday. The status of today's three state baseball finals -- 1A (St. Michaels vs. Brunswick), 2A (Blake vs. Centennial) and 3A (Northeast vs. Westlake) -- will be decided this morning, according to state baseball director Rick Wiles.

"If we call Saturday's games, they will be moved to Monday before the Arundel-Dulaney game, which will not change," Wiles said.

Northeast's bid for a 10th state softball title will be delayed until Tuesday after last night's 3A and 2A championship games were rained out at Randazzo Park in Severn.

Top-ranked Northeast (22-3) will play Northern-Calvert (18-4) at 6 p.m. Tuesday for the 3A title.

Fourth-ranked Atholton will try to become the first Howard County team to win a softball championship when it takes on North Caroline (22-1) at 3 p.m. in the 2A final. The Atholton game was moved up because the school's graduation is later that evening.
