MIDDLETOWN - State police were investigating yesterday the death of a 52-year-old West Virginia man who apparently jumped from a moving vehicle and hit a guardrail on Interstate 70 in Frederick County.

Police said Arthur King of Hedgesville, W. Va., asked his wife to pull over onto the shoulder of westbound I-70 near Middletown about 10:40 p.m. Saturday. A preliminary investigation shows that King then jumped from the 1998 Ford Explorer as it slowed on the shoulder but before it had stopped, and struck the guardrail, police said. King died at the scene, police said.
