Ryan Blackwell

Howard, track Blackwell, a senior, was Mr. Everything at the star-studded Howard County track Championships, accomplishing the rare feat of winning four individual gold medals. Blackwell won the long jump (21 feet 8), the triple jump (42-6), the 110-meter hurdles (14.7 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (39.5). Blackwell scored 40 of his team's 62.5 points, good enough for third in the team standings. Regarded as one of the hardest workers on the team, Blackwell was a 3A-2A state and region champion in the 55 hurdles during the indoor season.

Mia Zappacosta

McDonogh, softball

Zappacosta helped the Eagles end then-No. 1-ranked Archbishop Spalding's 11-year grip on the metro private schools softball title Friday. She pitched a three-hit shutout in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship game, striking out seven and walking one in a 2-0 victory. Offensively, she went 2-for-3 with a walk. She pitched a one-hitter in the semifinals, beating Catholic, 1-0, striking out 10 and walking none. The sophomore pitched a two-hitter against Seton Keough in the first round.
