May 14, 2001

A Frederick County man training for an Ironman competition was killed Saturday when he lost control of his bicycle on a hill and slammed into a fieldstone fence near Burkittsville.

Michael Fisher, 52, of Adamstown was pronounced dead at Mountain Church and Gapland roads. Police said he was traveling east when he lost control going around a curve on a wet road.

Sgt. Ted Nee of the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said Fisher was an experienced bicyclist who regularly took part in competitions. Nee said Fisher was wearing a helmet.
