Arts council announces winners of Howie Awards

The Howard County Arts Council has announced the 2000 Howie Awards winners.

Poet Lucille Clifton was selected as Outstanding Artist in Howard County. Marilyn Byers was chosen as Outstanding Arts Educator in the county, and the Columbia Foundation was named Outstanding Business Supporter of the Arts.

County Executive James N. Robey accepted the Pillars of the Community award on behalf of the citizens of Howard County.

The Howard County Arts Council selects award winners annually from among nominations made by community members.

This year's awards were presented at the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County, a gala held April 28 at Jim Rouse Theatre for the Performing Arts in Columbia.
