Center schedules seminars on starting a business, marketing

Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center and Marketing Partners Inc. will sponsor a seminar, "The First Steps to Starting Your Own Business," from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Center for Business & Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia. The cost is $15 prepaid and $20 at the door.

"Marketing Basics: How to Promote Your Company for Business Growth" will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 15. The cost is $45 prepaid and $60 at the door.

"Navigating the Certification Maze" will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 17. Government certification experts will describe how women, minority and disadvantaged small-business owners can qualify for federal, state, county, Washington Airport Authority and city certification programs. The cost is $50.

The Business Resource Center provides assistance in business management. The center's partners include SCORE, the Small Business Development Center, the Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund and other business counselors.

Consulting firm to offer `Living Your Legacy' class

DRW Inc., a Columbia consulting firm, will hold a seminar called "Living Your Legacy" from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 17 at Claret Hall in the Village of River Hill, Columbia. The seminar originally was scheduled for Thursday.

The seminar, to be led by the company's president, Linda Burton, will focus on creating a vision of personal goals. The company offers personal coaching to create life strategies and executive coaching for businesses.
